With 713km of coastline and extensive rivers, fishing has long been a part of Kochi’s culture. Our annual catch in 2005 amounted to 110,000 tons, earning 48 billion yen. Katsuo (bonito) and tuna are our main catch. In fact, katsuo are caught using a unique technique, where fishermen catch each fish separately using a single rod and line – this labor-intensive technique lands the best fish without fail.
