Citrus fruit is perfectly suited to Kochi’s mild climate, and some varieties are almost never seen outside the prefecture.

Yuzu's pictureYuzu is a kind of small lemon with a sweet flavour. It’s used in many dishes, such as to flavour suchi rice and in dipping sauces. It is the main ingredient in one of Kochi’s favourite beverage – Gokkun. Made from yuzu, honey and water, it is the most famous product from Umaji village, in east Kochi. It is the perfect refreshment and is gaining a devoted following around the country. Link (Japanese only): http://www.yuzu.or.jp/

Other unique citrus include the buntan (a large sweet type of grapefruit) and konatsu (a small sweet lemon whose pith is eaten together with the flesh)
