The prefectural flower is the Yamamomo. This is a large evergreen tree that is found on mountains facing the Japan sea in the warmer southern climes of Japan. Its petal-less flowers bloom in March-April, and the tree bears sweet, yet tart fruit in June-July. These red fruit are available at the Sunday market during the fruiting season.
