Muroto Open Sea Area appointed the model area for "Studies on Technology for Effective Use of Deep Sea Resources" by the Aquamarine Project subsidized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency.

The Kochi Deep Seawater Laboratory established by Kochi Prefecture Government.May 1994
New Laboratory building and intake system completed.*1) Deep Seawater intake equipment was developed and installed by the Japan Science and Technology Center which is entrusted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency.
